First Outing

Last night I got the opportunity to perform new Supersmall songs in front of an audience for the first time at the UCBeast Theater. The headliner, Jim Gaffigan cancelled allowing me extra time for three songs and my typical jibber jabber/rambling. Daniela also had to cancel so I ran through This Other World, Wherever We Are and Goodbye Old Friend solo. I was more anxious than usual but the songs went down well and I got some positive feedback from the audience after the show. Afterwards we all retired to The Library Bar and celebrated a fun show.

It was such a relief and validation to play these new songs in public. They exist now and that’s all that matters.

New Song & First Gig

View from Rehearsal Studio

Rehearsal tonight was exactly what I needed, fun. I was frustrated with several delays in finishing the E.P. and a host of other stuff in general. It happens and is all part of the creative process. I’m sure things will turn out fine in the end, they always do. Long story short, rehearsal was a ton of fun and all spirits are lifted regardless.

I brought in a new song tonight that I had been picking on for a long time. It’s a simple and dark/odd tune but I’m very proud of it and we both agreed to add it to our growing set after running through it a few times. Daniela put a great rhythm to it and helped working out the stops & starts (It stops and starts a lot). Thirteen original songs and counting, not bad right? We’re still anti-cover right now but we’re both huge Neil Finn fans and ‘Distant Sun’ may sneak in eventually.

We have our first ever show on the 29th of January at UCBEast. I wish the E.P. was ready but we’ll showcase three songs from it anyway: This Other World, Goodbye Old Friend & Wherever We Are. We timed ourselves and came in 14 seconds under the allotted time we were given – can you tell that the band consists of a Scientist and an Engineer? Rock N’ Roll baby!

HOME (TURN OFF THE LIGHTS) – Supersmall January 2013
I know you’re quite devoted
When something’s wrong
Drinking until your dried out
Escape and roam
And you want love, ‘coz you need love
From inside out, below, and above.
Roll it in, roll it out
Roll it in, roll it out
Like a tide that brings you home
Dried up under a spotlight
In search for home
The fear of disappearing
Before you’re done
And you want love, ‘coz you need love
From inside out, below, and above.
Roll it in, roll it out
Roll it in, roll it out
Like a tide that brings you home
I can see the edge
Of I told you so
Time and time again
The beating little hearts
Of a soulless town
Always welcome you
From wherever you’ve been
Home
Roll it in, roll it out
Roll it in, roll it out
Roll it in, roll it out
Roll it in, roll it out
Like a tide that brings you home
