Bio

Colin Dempsey is an Irish singer-songwriter, writer and storyteller based in New York. He has performed his unique blend of Indie/folk-rock music in Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Canada, Europe and most recently the US. When not strumming, Colin is cheering audiences with personal tales of growing up in Dublin. When not telling stories (yes, he does shut-up…) he is writing them–you can catch him doing so at Kettle of Fish in the West Village or The Sparrow Tavern in Astoria…at the bar.

Colin is the singer and guitarist for Indie-Rock duo Supersmall with Neuroscientist and storyteller Daniela Schiller. Their debut E.P. This Other World was released in June 2013. The Indie Blender said, “Dempsey’s and Schiller’s experience as musicians is evident in this pristinely produced collection of dreamy folk songs.”

Indie-Music.com said the two “make a compelling duo; a very organic and natural partnership of storytellers whose lyrical content shine among these seven well-crafted songs.” They also featured The Other World on their 13 Editor Picks of 2013 list.

Supersmall was named one of “Deli Magazine NYC, Emerging Artist 2013.”

Silent Moon is the band’s sophomore project and debut album, released January 2016. It was produced, recorded and mixed by Tom Beaujour at Nuthouse Recording, who’s worked with Roadrunner Records, Prosthetic Records and Barsuk Records. AudioFuzz said “There is nothing at all small about Supersmall, they are a large sounding folk/pop group. Beautiful vocals, beautiful arrangements. A great band that is on its way to big things. I’m hitching my wagon to their star.”

Elmore Magazine said of their single A Better Life – “Overachievers they may be, but if “A Better Life” is any indication, here’s hoping this is the beginning of a long and fruitful relationship for Supersmall.”

You can find their music on iTunes, Bandcamp, Amazon, CD Baby, Pandora, Google Play and Spotify. They continue to perform in venues throughout their hometown of New York City and all across North America. They are currently writing their next record These Dark Woods due for release in 2020.

He is also the bass player for New York neuroscience rock band The Amygdaloids.

Colin is also part of the Heavy Mental Neuroscience folk rock duo So We Are. Rosanne Cash described “So We Are” as a kind of “post-modern Everly Brothers.” They recently recorded an album, Things We’ve Learned with The Rock Valley Retinue in the Rock Valley Schoolhouse in Long Eddy, NY.

He also plays bass guitar for Ruby Rae. Ruby Rae is on Good Child Records “The throwback honkytonk tunes of Ruby Rae [are] darker than your usual singer-songwriter fare, with noir-ish and Southern gothic influenced lyrics” – Washington Post.

Colin’s screenplay ‘The Art of Eating Alone” was a finalist in the Manhattan Short Screenplay Competition 2008.

Colin has performed on NPR, KRVS 87.7FM, WJFF 90.5FM, SiriusXM Radio, Thunder 102FM, Dublin City FM, and other various east coast radio stations.

‘Goodbye Old Friend’ a song written and performed by Supersmall was recently featured in the documentary The Ripple Project.
